Treatment for nervous patients

Dr Amaninder Singh Gill is a highly experienced dentist; as well as being warm, understanding and approachable, Dr Gill is also qualified in the use of intravenous sedation and relative analgesia sedation, treatments which help patients to feel calm and relaxed during the treatment process.

Sedation is a popular treatment for nervous patients; it is not the same as general anaesthetic because it does not make you lose consciousness. Sedation induces a state of sleep-like relaxation, but patients can still communicate with the dentist. Patients do not feel any pain during the procedure and they are unlikely to remember most of the procedure after they have come around. After sedation, it is common for patients to experience drowsiness and we advise patients to arrange a lift home and for somebody to care for them for the next 24 hours.

What are the benefits of sedation?

Sedation is beneficial because it helps nervous patients to relax before and during treatment. Patients know beforehand that there is nothing to worry about and they remain calm throughout the procedure. Sedation is also a good option for patients who have specific fears and those who suffer from anxiety as a result of negative experiences in the past. Sedation can also be beneficial for patients who have a very sensitive gag reflex and those who are having long or complex procedures.
